True North (GB) Limited is a specialist training and development company that is an Accredited Insights Associate. Seeing The Wood For The Trees

True North were able to use this approach to support the transformation of one of their clients, a market leader in the design and construction of timber-framed buildings. Despite successes including the restoration of fire-damaged roof timbers at Windsor Castle, this company was struggling following a turbulent period of mergers and de-mergers.

Given events in the recent past it was understandable that people within the business were failing to achieve their individual and team objectives. Not surprisingly, the business had undergone several changes in direction over this period: for those within there was an overwhelming sense of need to re-focus the business and revitalise and support those within it.

Dysfunctional day-to-day business operation is symptomatic of not having a clearly communicated business direction and purpose. In this case, the business direction and purpose had already been devised, but its principles had not been agreed, nor clearly understood throughout the business.

Called in to support this period of development, True North consultants used Insights Discovery Profiles to determine the characteristics and preferences of those they were looking to develop, and to enable the recipients to discover and understand for themselves the beliefs that shaped their actions and behaviours.

In a small organisation, where the Board consists of five or six people, there is a huge need for effective working relationships. By raising awareness and using the Discovery System to create a common understanding of what made individuals 'tick', True North enabled the senior management team to confidently create robust strategies to move the business forward. One particularly valuable outcome was the increased understanding of attitudes towards business process that were held by individuals, revealing alternative techniques for improving communication processes at all levels in the organisation.

Discovering A Complete Perspective

Having used the Insights Discovery system to provide a common understanding of purpose and goals, and the ability to identify strengths and weaknesses, True North's client has been able to create an effective work ethos and establish strategies to redress the balance. For this company, the learning continues to strengthen the robust plans now in place for the business, and True North continue to work with them in other areas.
